Guest Post on Ill Seen, Ill Said {Where We Blog From}

I can't say I am going to be fully back to blogging this week as my mom is coming in town, and I know we will be busy, but I wanted to pop in today to let you know that I'm sharing a glimpse at the space from where I blog over on Ill Seen, Ill Said today, as part of Jane's "Where We Blog From" series.

I was extremely flattered when Jane asked me to take part in her series, not only because I adore her blog, but because I loved the idea of the series. I always enjoy getting a glimpse at the "person behind the blog," and I thought it would be interesting to see the variety of places from where people chose to blog, as well as to read what they had to say about their spaces. The series certainly has not disappointed, and if you haven't been following it, you should take a look at the spaces the other bloggers have shared.

Also, if you don't read Ill Seen, Ill Said already, be sure to spend some time perusing the archives of this blog since it's one that stands out from the crowd. Whether Jane is sharing favorite poems, books, writers, photography, interiors or fashion, her taste and selections are always impeccable, and the openness and honesty with which she writes are what immediately endeared her to me.

Levelling Up

I received my posting message this morning. I am officially on my way to BC, and I am being loaded on the next available MARS IV course. I am also an Acting Sub-Lieutenant as of 17 September but I don't know when the actual promotion parade (or something like that, I forget what it's called) is going to be so I'm still stuck wearing my NCdt rank for the time being. I am moving sometime in mid-to-late-october, I'm not sure yet when as I need to arrange things here, as well as figure out when my course actually is. I'll try and find a place to rent, but I think I'll have to live on base for a while. No big deal.

In the Navy...

So,

I've been accepted into CEOTP. Hopefully, I'll be getting my new rank (Acting Sub Lieutenant... doesn't sound very imposing, does it?) with my posting message, which will likely come later today.

I'm assuming I'm being posted to some MARPAC unit (probably a shore duty) until my next course starts--hopefully the next MARS IV, in November.

This is both exciting and terrifying. On one hand, I'm extremely happy I'm getting a commission and being posted to the Fleet, instead of sitting around ArmyTown doing random jobs, but on the other hand I'm flying a few thousand miles away from the woman of my dreams, and my friends and family, and into the unknown... and the not-really-remembered (ie the actual MARS stuff I learned over a year ago). I'll get leave for Xmas and, assuming I go on course in November, some leave in May/June... but that's kinda far. It is what I expected to happen this year when I thought I'd graduate last May, but things were different then. And I didn't have a few days' warning to ship out.

I guess I should wrap up the day's work and head home so I can find the stuff I need to return to supply, and start packing...

Thus, dear readers (all none of you), starts another chapter in my career.

What's past is prologue; what to come,
In my discharge.

Time to Reflect

Holiday-shortened weeks always throw me, but I am having a hard time believing it is already Friday again; it certainly doesn't feel like a week since my last post! While it has been a short week, lately, it seems like a lot of my weeks pass like this-- I blink, and they're gone.

I feel like I hardly have time to catch my breath these days, and so I've decided a short blogging break is in order. It's nothing long term; I'll only be gone for a week, maybe two, but I'm hoping a declared mini-break from the blog will give me time to reflect, recharge, and catch up on everything else going on in my life without feeling bad for neglecting things here.

If your weeks are going anything like mine, I will be back before you even know I was gone! Until then... xoxo

While the Cat is Away...*

I'm guest blogging today over at Grace's Birdcage on the subject of friendship while Ms. Birdcage is off on a girls' getaway with her best friends from school.

Chris Craymer

I must admit I'm envious of her trip, not only because they've headed to South Beach for the weekend, which sounds fantastic, but because it has been far too long since I've seen a number of my very dearest friends and even longer since we've had a girl's getaway. I hope it won't be too long before I can say I'm headed off for the very same thing!

If you don't read it already, you should definitely check out Grace's Birdcage; she has a great eye for fashion and a witty and sarcastic side that comes out in her writing, which I love it!

*Grace is actually Ms. Birdcage's cat, but I guess she probably had to stay home this weekend and did not jaunt off to South Beach as well.

Let's Dance

The ballerina inside me, although now dormant for many years, is still enamored with all things ballet, including these skirts that echo of tights and toe shoes.

I rather wish this toddler-sized skirt, by Dove Tree, came in an adult version!
