The much-anticipated symposium started with planary talk by Dr. Harris. He started saying it has been wonderful 50 years and he would like to personalize that history.
He mentioned his early optical talbe, which was made from a lathe:

40 years ago I modulated many photons; 40 years later I modulate one photon.
